Hinckley Yachts was founded by a small group of New Zealand boat builders who were originally commissioned to collaborate on a 28m project, a large undertaking at the time. Having found success with this build the group continued there collaboration and in 1985, led by Tony Hambrook, Hinckley Yachts was born.
Hambrook as the managing director has been the driving force behind Hinckley's success. His focus on quality control and in-house design and fabrication have led to many firsts in world cruising sailing yachts. Hinckley was first to use carbon fiber spars and fully-battened mainsails. They pioneered in-boom furling and the first power management systems which have now become standard equipment in the superyacht world. These innovations have helped make them one of the leading builders of large sail and one of the most awarded internationally.
Hinckley Yachts has worked with a number of designers over the years with Dubois being the most prolific. All of the designs have a very contemporary look and tremendous performance numbers. They now have more than 40 builds over 100' and have established themselves as one of the very elite builders of world cruising sailing yachts.
